Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026. These terms govern your use of Beacon's safety timer and emergency alert service.
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using Beacon, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Beacon is intended for users 13 years of age or older.
2. Description of service
Beacon provides a personal safety timer, emergency contact management, last-known location logging, and automated SMS alerts. The service depends on your device, network connectivity, third-party messaging providers, and location permissions. We do not guarantee that alerts will always be delivered or that emergency assistance will be dispatched.
3. User accounts and data
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials and safety PIN secure. You may not impersonate another person or provide false emergency contact information. Beacon is not an emergency service provider — it is a tool to notify people you trust. You remain responsible for choosing appropriate contacts and following up with emergency services when needed.
4. Daily check-in notifications
When you start a safety session, Beacon sets a countdown timer. If you do not check in before the timer expires, Beacon will attempt to notify your selected emergency contacts. You can stop a session early using your safety PIN. Notification delivery depends on network availability and the configuration of your device and messaging provider.
5. Subscriptions and payments
Beacon offers a free plan and optional Pro subscriptions. Payments are processed by Stripe and are subject to Stripe's terms. Subscriptions begin with the advertised free trial, then convert to a paid plan unless canceled before the trial ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription through the Account page or Stripe billing portal.
6. Data security and privacy
We take reasonable measures to protect your account and safety data, including encryption in transit and at rest, and database access controls. However, no online service is completely secure. Review our Privacy Policy for full details on how we collect, use, and store your information.
7. Third-party services
Beacon relies on trusted third-party providers for authentication, hosting, database, payment processing, and SMS delivery. We are not responsible for the acts, omissions, or downtime of these providers beyond our reasonable control. Your use of third-party services may be governed by their own terms.
8. Prohibited conduct
You may not use Beacon to send spam, threats, or harassing messages; to test emergency services; to interfere with the service's infrastructure; or to reverse engineer, copy, or resell any part of Beacon. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Beacon and its operators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service, including missed alerts, delayed messages, inaccurate location data, or any reliance on the service for personal safety or emergency response.
10. Changes to the terms
We may update these Terms of Service as Beacon evolves. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
11. Termination
You may delete your account and stop using Beacon at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms or if continued operation is not commercially feasible. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
